Restructuring for 2020: New “Clubhouse.” New Choices.

Dear Friends of the San Fernando Valley Patriots:
Our “Combat Civics” theme continues at a public restaurant with a new focus that ALL of can share as we head into a year of local, statewide and national elections.
The SFV Patriots will continue to meet from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on the second Saturdays of most months, excluding December (family/religious holidays).
Our new “clubhouse” is Black Bear Diner, 18355 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana, CA 91356; 818-457-4071. The meeting room is HALF the size of Marie Callender’s, which closed due to bankruptcy, but the space is semi-private, comfortable and affordable.
The Diner’s room size means we must SPLIT our membership. Instead of 25-35 people regularly attending a monthly meeting, we’re experimenting with TWO work groups, so that up to 15 people can attend a SFVP meeting at least every other month.
We offer a choice of Adams’ Groups with shared, but separate focus: John Adams (even months); Sam Adams (odd months). John Adams (election/legislative issues); Sam Adams (project/event/rally planning).
Loss of our “clubhouse” at Marie Callender’s means large meetings are out, small work groups are in; banquet menus are out, off-the-menu dining is in; bulk receipts are out, individual payments are in; passive civic action is out, fun work groups are in.
At this time, SFVP staff and I will be the only members permitted to attend both groups. This makes more seats available to patriots, but RSVP is essential.
Here’s what you need to know for our Oct. 12 or Nov. 9 meetings:
  • Select membership in EITHER the John or Sam Adams’ group.
  • RSVP the number of your party to the SFVP hotline at 818-881-7176.
  • Please RSVP by the Wednesday prior to the meeting date.
  • Attendees MUST order food for us to maintain our clubhouse reservation.
  • The Diner food prices are between $9 to $15 for lunch/breakfast meals.
  • Our “opportunity drawing” will still offer 6 tickets for $5 to support SFVP.
  • This restructuring is geared to keep SFVP affordable, intimate and effective.
A number of you RSVP’d for the work groups while we were still at Marie Callender’s. PLEASE update your RSVP as we move to the Black Bear Diner.
Blessings in Liberty!
Karen Kenney, coordinator SFV Patriots
Our Sergeant Needs a Minute Man Navy!
ACTION UPDATE: We’re making this a Sam Adams/Minute-Man priority due to Sgt. Hale’s special request. (He just returned from a month-long special assignment in Afghanistan.)
You select a new or used DVD and include a personal note in the shipping carton. Imagine if we create a pipeline, rather than just a carton of DVDs. It would give our troops something to look forward to from back home.

SFV Patriots: Divide-to-Conquer

Re: SFVP Summer-Fall 2019 Restructuring: The Adams’ Groups
Dear Friends of the SFV Patriots:
This memo is to clarify the cornerstones of our format restructuring now for 2020:
Cost. Effectiveness. Accountability.
We need to cut club costs and sharpen civic efforts to remain viable in California.
We’re gearing up for 2020 with a focus on local and statewide politics.
We’re taking civic action personally and adding accountability.
Here’s the skinny: We’re splitting into two smaller work groups. You join only one. Groups meet every-other month through 2019. We continue to meet monthly on the second Saturday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Marie Callender’s Restaurant, but in the smaller, semi-private LIBRARY ROOM.
We stick together. We focus. We sharpen our skills.
We’re suspending large-group meetings from August through November 2019.
Instead of meeting as a single group in the larger, private Garden Room (25-30 attendees), we will meet in the Library Room (12-14 attendees).
We’re splitting into TWO “platoons”–dubbed John or Sam Adams–with the focus on legislative/election issues (John Adams) or events/projects (Sam Adams).
John Adams group meets in August and October 2019.
Sam Adams group meets in September and November 2019.
You pick your group. You work with your group. This allows for more fellowship and teamwork to hold ourselves accountable for our assigned civic actions.
Only SFV Patriots staff and myself with attend ALL meetings. At this point, you cannot signup for both groups, since seats are so limited.
Please RSVP your spot in your choice of group to 818-881-7176. Include your name, phone and email with your group selection. (I reserve the option of reassignment if seats are unavailable, but will notify you.)
Again, we’ll continue to meet at Marie Callender’s Restaurant in Northridge, but in the LIBRARY ROOM from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on the 2nd Saturday of each month (excluding December, which we take off for family or sacred holidays.)
The Library Room offers an intimate, semi-private space (located just past the restrooms). You can order off the more affordable public (non-banquet) menu and are responsible for your own bill (food/beverage/tips/tax).
My hope is this format will keep San Fernando Valley Patriots successful so we can offer speakers’ meetings in January, April, July and October in 2020 without incurring debt.
Blessings in Liberty!
